The marriage of time-tested alkaline-lyses and spin-column technology with proprietary HiBind ® matrix allows convenient and reliable plasmid isolation. Binding DNA rapidly and quantitatively, the HiBind ® column eliminates many labor-intensive steps required in traditional plasmid purification procedures, including phenol-chloroform extractions, cesium chloride banding, alcohol precipitations, and slow gravity-flow ion-exchange columns. In addition, the membrane-like HiBind ® matrix eliminates the common DNA shearing and silica resin carry-over observed in similar "bind-wash-elute" systems. As a result, large quantities of highly pure plasmid DNA can be isolated in very little time.  The following tabulates specifications of kits designed for various applications and situations.

Q-Spin Column:
This is OBI's original spin column. With no attached cap and featuring a mesh-like bottom, this column provides a fast and easy solution for routine plasmid isolation.

V-Spin Column:
The OBI V-Spin column features an attached cap and a standard outlet luer at the bottom. The standard outlet luer is designed for an easy, leak-free connection to a vacuum manifold or luer hub needle. The attached cap virtually assures the elimination of potential contamination during the experiment. This column can be used for both centrifugation and vacuum protocols.

S-Spin Column:
By adding an attached cap to the Q-Spin column, the newly designed S-Spin column provides a security feature to prevent any potential contamination.
